On Thursday 11th August the Swiis Permanence Team hosted an activity day for their children and young people at Fordell Firs. The group ranged from 4 years to 13 years old.
Kitted out in wellies and waterproofs the children came prepared for an action packed day. After getting fitted with harnesses and helmets the instructor led the children to an extremely tall climbing tower. One by one the children ascended the tower. One boy, who was only 6, managed to reach the top and ring the bell! Even those who at first were unsure about trying the climb, decided to give it a go.
After the climb it was time to tackle the forest assault course. All sorts of skills were required to tackle the course, climbing, balancing, tunneling. The children worked fantastically as a team, supporting and encouraging each other. After completing the course everybody had worked up a healthy appetite and were ready for lunch in the scout hut.
After lunch we split in to two groups – one group tackled the underground caves while the others tried their hand at archery. While the caves proved challenging for some, others had a fantastic adventure underground armed with maps and glow sticks. We discovered some budding Robin Hoods during archery practice too… The children were very focused making some superb attempts at their targets, some even managing to hit the bullseye!
After swapping around our afternoon activities it was time to go back to the scout hut to get the children changed into clean clothes ready for their families to take them home. The children were tired, but still had enough energy to chat excitedly about their achievements of the day!
