The Swiis Learning and Development Team are pleased to introduce a new Online Child Protection (CP) training. This new training covers all of the key messages found in the face to face training, but here we have also included pieces of work for the carers to undertake, e.g. some research with questions to be answered, a short quiz, as well as some questions relating to Swiis’ Child Protection Policy. Carers who opt to undertake CP Training in this format will not be marked as having ‘attended’ if they do not complete the exercises within an allocated time.
As a team we have always made it our aim to make the delivery of the mandatory training as flexible as possible so that we are accommodating all our foster carers across Scotland. Until now, Child Protection training had to be done annually by carers.
After some deliberation and as a result of feedback from carers themselves who had posed the question about how are we truly able to assess their understanding of the training provided and then integrate this into practice, we decided to put together this training and add homework tasks at the end. The fact that we are delivering the SVQ, Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) level 3, had made us more aware and appreciative of the need for the carers undertaking this award to find out about legislation and theory, and then evidence their understanding of this in all areas of their practice by completing written pieces of work.
We have informed all the teams that this is now available as an alternative to the face to face training and they have put forward 40 carers to try this out.
The team is really keen to receive feedback from foster carers as to how they have found the online training as our intention is to review recording training next and adapt this to either delivering online or via ‘Skype’ or some other similar social medium.
All feedback is greatly welcomed.
